Leicester Midfielder James Maddison Nearing Move to Tottenham Hotspur in £40m Deal
Tottenham Nears Completion of £40m Deal for Leicester Star James Maddison
Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of finalizing a £40m transfer deal for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
Maddison, 26, who has represented England three times and played a crucial role in Leicester’s FA Cup triumph in 2021, is scheduled to undergo a medical examination with Spurs on Wednesday.
Since his arrival from Norwich in 2018 for a fee of approximately £20m, Maddison has amassed 203 appearances for Leicester. In the previous season, he netted 10 goals in the Premier League, despite the club’s relegation.
Maddison’s impressive record of 55 goals and 41 assists for the Foxes highlights his creative prowess, which will be a valuable asset to Tottenham’s squad that has lacked a playmaker since the departure of Christian Eriksen in 2020.
While Newcastle had previously expressed interest in signing Maddison, they have shifted their focus to pursuing AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali this summer.
In addition to the potential signing of Maddison, Tottenham recently secured the services of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A side Empoli. Furthermore, they made Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus permanent following the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou.
