Elon Musk’s xAI Startup to Collaborate with Tesla and Twitter in Advancing AI Technologies
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter, has unveiled plans for his latest venture, the artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI, to collaborate with both companies to drive forward AI technologies.
Musk intends to harness Tesla’s expertise in the “silicon front” and “AI software front” to expedite the development of self-driving capabilities. Additionally, he aims to leverage public tweets from Twitter to train xAI’s AI models, with the ultimate goal of achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) and offering an alternative to established players in the field like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.
Speaking during a live audio session on Twitter Spaces, Musk criticized other AI companies for their failure to adequately consider the risks associated with AI. He expressed the need for regulation in the AI sector and revealed his plans to engage with government officials in the United States and China to emphasize the importance of responsible AI development.
Musk acknowledged that xAI would utilize Twitter data for training its AI systems, a practice already adopted by other companies. He emphasized xAI’s focus on building AI systems and products that possess a high degree of curiosity, encompassing text, image, and video training. He mentioned Tesla’s custom silicon and underscored the importance of the company’s in-vehicle hardware, such as Autopilot and Full Self Driving capability, which relies on advanced driver assistance systems.
