Finding a middle path China calls for compromise with India in media conflict

China urges India to find a middle ground in journalist dispute

China has called on India to engage in constructive dialogue and reach a compromise regarding the ongoing dispute over journalists working in each other’s countries. The call comes after China raised concerns over the treatment of its reporters in India and the expulsion of an Indian journalist from China.

This media staff disagreement is the latest development highlighting the tensions between the two Asian nations, which escalated in mid-2020 following a clash between their troops along the disputed Himalayan border, resulting in the loss of 24 lives.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment of Chinese journalists in India, citing unfair and discriminatory arrangements. In a Monday briefing, Wang stated, “We hope that India will continue to issue visas for Chinese journalists, remove unreasonable restrictions, and create favorable conditions for media exchanges.”

The resolution of this journalist dispute holds significance in improving the strained relations between China and India. Both nations are urged to engage in productive discussions to address the concerns and find a mutually beneficial solution that promotes media freedom and cooperation.
