Modi Rewrites History: Indian Prime Minister’s Visit to Egypt Ends 26-Year Hiatus
Indian PM Narendra Modi’s arrival in Egypt marks a significant milestone, as it is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 26 years. This visit holds great importance, as it was extended as a “State visit” following an invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during India’s Republic Day celebrations earlier this year.
During his two-day stay, PM Modi engaged in productive bilateral talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and President El-Sisi. He also took the time to visit the historic Al-Hakim Mosque and pay homage to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Grave cemetery.
An important aspect of PM Modi’s Egypt tour was his meeting with the esteemed Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
PM Modi received a warm embrace from Egyptian Prime Minister Madbouly upon his arrival, and the Indian community in Cairo gave him a heartfelt welcome, waving flags and chanting his name. The atmosphere was filled with joy as the crowd sang Indian songs, and PM Modi showed his appreciation by applauding and interacting with the enthusiastic members of the Indian diaspora.
The visit showcased the shared cultural heritage and the strong desire to foster closer ties between India and Egypt. The warm reception from Egyptian leaders and the Indian community highlighted the depth of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
