How far ahead is Rishi Sunak in the race to become the Prime Minister of Britain?

Britain is once again preparing to choose the next prime minister. Rishi Sunak of Indian origin, who lost to Liz Truss in the race for the post of Prime Minister in September, has become the strongest contender in the race to become PM this time.

After former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was out of the race, now Sunak’s prime ministerial claim has been confirmed.

Now Rishi Sunak can lose this race only when the second contender for this post, Penny Mordont, can increase the number of his supporters manifold by lunch time today.

If she is not able to do this, then this afternoon itself Rishi Sunak will be elected leader of the Conservative Party and he will become the Prime Minister of Britain.

instability and anxiety

This has been an unprecedented period of instability and this is what most members of the Conservative Party agree in private conversation. Party members are also concerned that the reputation of the party has been seriously damaged by this senseless circus.

Those of us journalists who have had the opportunity to cover this uproar know that this weekend has seemed a bit politically familiar.

This was not the first time that people in Westminster have been asking ‘What will Boris Johnson do now?’

Boris Johnson returned from the Caribbean country and tried to gauge the mood of the MPs by phone on Saturday-Sunday. Just a few weeks ago, these same MPs forced Boris Johnson to resign.

He wanted to know whether the attitude of his party MPs about him has changed in the changed circumstances.

Boris Johnson’s efforts

Since Saturday afternoon, his team was telling that he has a sufficient number of MPs with him. Britain’s cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg publicly claimed this.

Another minister, Chris Heaton-Harris, went further. He claimed that Boris Johnson had completed the paperwork required to claim to be the leader of the Conservative Party and placed him before the party.

It clearly meant that he is in the race for the post.

As a response to these reports, such topics were raised from which if Boris Johnson would return, he would have to deal with it. To put it simply, there are a lot of such issues.

By the way, even the people standing with Boris Johnson are not believing anything about him.

One such MP told me in a private conversation that if Boris Johnson had not been facing an inquiry in Parliament about the party during Kovid, the situation would have been completely different.

The MP told me that had he not been investigated, he would have been in the race for the prime minister’s post once again.

But now he is in this race.

And he is not in this race only because he does not have the numbers with him. It seems that he has not been able to make even a third of the Conservative Party MPs stand on his side.

Boris Johnson understands very well that even if he wins the race without the consent of the party MPs, his victory will be meaningless. He knows how difficult it will be to fulfill the responsibilities of the PM without the support of a parliamentary party. What will happen next in Britain after the resignation of Liz Truss one more change So that’s why there is a change in power in Britain once again.

I have learned that King Charles III, the Emperor of Britain, will be in London on Monday evening. If there is no contest in the party and Rishi Sunak is elected this afternoon, he will probably wait till Tuesday to sit on the post of Prime Minister so that he can enter Downing Street in broad daylight.

But let’s see what happens. It may be that even now there is a contest for the post of leader within the party.

But what matters is that the person who wins will face the same problems as Liz Truss, who left her position.

These problems are the badly divided Conservative Party, the ever-increasing inflation, the worrying financial situation and the fierce opposition attacks.

But there is also a hope that every time the Conservative Party’s hunger to get stronger by recovering from the catastrophe will be rekindled.

If this does not happen, then this difficult task will soon become impossible.

Liz Truss resigns as prime minister after party ‘revolt’

How is the claim submitted?

The Conservative Party currently has a majority in Britain. Liz Truss became Prime Minister after Boris Johnson was removed.

Now the party has to choose a new leader again. The leader of the party who will be elected will also be the next PM.

The election to become a leader of the Conservative Party requires the signatures of 100 MPs. This process is not public, but the party’s ‘1922 executive’ elects the new leader.

This process is not in any published document. But BBC correspondent Helen Kate spoke to some people related to the process and wanted to explain it.

Two Conservative Party MPs have to propose the name of the candidate. The names of these two MPs are made public. After this, 98 other MPs have to support this proposal. These MPs can keep their names secret.

Candidates for office are preparing MPs to be proposers via phone and email to submit their forms to the 1922 Executive Council.

According to Helen Kate, after this the party will check whether those whose name is in the form as a proposer are really with the candidate or not.

According to Indian time, the period for filing nomination is coming.
