PM Expresses Hope for Speedy Cooperation Renewal

Careta­ker Prime Minister Anw­aar­ul Haq Kakar expressed hope for the resolution of issues impeding the revival of the eight-member South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) in his greetings message on the 39th SAARC Charter Day. PM Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the Saarc process and expressed confidence that current hindrances to the Organization’s smooth functioning would be removed. He emphasized the importance of the Saarc Charter and its potential to provide a framework for transforming the lives of over two billion people in the South Asian region.

On another note, in a meeting with members of the Pakistan Stock Exchange and heads of leading companies, Mr. Kakar stated that the government was ensuring the implementation of its institutional reforms agenda and taking practical steps for the documentation of the economy. Facilitating the business community and investors was highlighted as a top priority. The Pakistan Stock Exchange CEO thanked the premier for his visit and provided a detailed briefing. The meeting discussed increased confidence among investors and the business community, leading to growth in business and the stock exchange.

The PM highlighted the regained investor confidence after the successful signing of a standby agreement with the IMF and improvements in fiscal and external accounts. He also addressed a ceremony marking the first auction of Government Ijarah Sukuk bonds issued by the PSX, emphasizing the stock exchange’s role as a dynamic force for progress and prosperity.
