His victory over French player Melvil Scianimanico marked a historic moment for Pakistani squash, as he became the first Pakistani player to reach the championship’s deciding stage in 15 years.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Scianimanico mounting a fierce comeback after being two games and match ball down. However, Hamza showed incredible resilience and composure in the decider, ultimately clinching the victory with a scoreline of 11-8, 11-4, 10-12, 9-11, and 13-11.
This remarkable feat comes as no surprise, as Hamza’s journey to the final has been nothing short of exceptional. In the quarter-finals, he defeated Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah in a hard-fought battle, securing his spot in the final four.
Earlier in the tournament, Hamza demonstrated his prowess by defeating Colombia’s Santamaria in a close pre-quarter-final match. In the round of 16, he showcased his skills against Netherlands’ Samuel Grates, prevailing with an impressive score of 12-10, 11-6, 11-3, and 11-7.
Despite his valiant efforts, Pakistan’s Huzaifa Khan faced a tough challenge in the competition and was eliminated from the final race. His nail-biting contest against USA’s Rishi Srivastava showcased his fighting spirit, but Rishi ultimately secured victory in the final set.
Three Pakistani players, including Moeen-ud-din, also participated in the championship, reflecting the country’s strong presence in the squash world.
Hamza’s journey to the final is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. Having reached the semi-finals in the previous year’s edition, he has proven himself as a formidable contender in the World Juniors. As he enters the final, all eyes will be on him, cheering for his success and hoping for a historic victory for Pakistan in the prestigious championship.
