The Big Decision PCB Chairman Elections Scheduled for June 27
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced that the elections for the top post of chairman will take place on June 27 at the PCB headquarters in Lahore.
In a statement, the PCB emphasized that the election process will be conducted fairly and transparently, adhering to all legal formalities. The Election Commissioner, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, assured the public that due process will be followed to ensure a smooth and impartial election.
Initially, the PCB had announced the elections to be held on June 28, but the date was changed to June 27 due to a public holiday announced by the government on Wednesday.
The decision to hold elections comes after the formation of the PCB’s Board of Governors, as communicated by the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry. The board comprises nominees from various entities, including the Prime Minister’s nominees Muhammad Zaka Ashraf and Mustafa Ramday, National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of Pakistan, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), and presidents of regional cricket associations.
The chairman’s position has been a matter of contention between political coalition partners, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). While the PPP advocates for the return of former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, the PML-N preferred the continuation of Najam Sethi, the now-defunct Management Committee Chairman.
However, with Sethi withdrawing from the race, the path has been cleared for PPP’s nominee Ashraf to reclaim the position of PCB chairman. Sethi, in his announcement, expressed his desire to avoid being a source of conflict within the coalition government and cited the prevailing atmosphere of uncertainty as unsuitable for the board’s stability.
The upcoming elections will play a crucial role in determining the future direction of the PCB, and all eyes will be on the candidates vying for the esteemed position of chairman.
