Cricketing Action Unveiled: Asia Cup 2023 Schedule Features Four Matches in Pakistan
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah has unveiled the schedule for the highly anticipated men’s Asia Cup, with Pakistan confirmed as the host for four matches in Multan and Lahore.
The tournament will kick off in Multan on August 30, with Pakistan facing Nepal in the opening match. The remaining three matches in Pakistan will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, including a crucial Super 4s match.
The final of the Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka on September 17.
The high-profile group match between Pakistan and India is set to be played in Kandy, Sri Lanka on September 2. Both teams are in the same group alongside Nepal, while the other group comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.
In an interesting twist, Shah, who also serves as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), revealed the schedule via a tweet just minutes before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was about to officially announce it.
Shah expressed his happiness in sharing the schedule and emphasized the Asia Cup’s significance as a symbol of unity and togetherness among diverse nations.
Earlier this year, the ACC approved a hybrid model for the Asia Cup, dividing the tournament into two phases. The first phase will be held in Pakistan, while the second phase will take place in Sri Lanka.
The schedule was finalized during a meeting between Zaka Ashraf, the successor of PCB Management Committee chairman Najam Sethi, and Jay Shah on the sidelines of the chief executives’ committee (CEC) meeting during the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual session in Durban, South Africa.
