Twitter Service Disruptions Thousands Express Frustration with Platform Issues

Twitter Users Worldwide Encounter Issues, Thousands Report Problems

On Saturday night, thousands of Twitter users worldwide experienced difficulties while using the social media platform, according to an outage tracking website.

The United States saw over 7,000 incidents of users reporting issues with Twitter, while the United Kingdom recorded more than 5,000 complaints. Users in several other countries, including India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, and Germany, also faced similar problems.

Some Dawn.com staffers encountered a “rate limit exceeded” message on both the Twitter app and website, with no tweets appearing on their feeds.

The exact cause of the problems has yet to be determined, and Twitter Inc has not issued a direct comment on the matter at this time.

Meanwhile, Twitter owner Elon Musk addressed the situation in a post, stating that Twitter had implemented temporary reading limits to tackle “extreme levels” of data scraping and system manipulation. Musk mentioned that verified accounts would have a temporary limit of 6,000 posts per day, while unverified accounts and new unverified accounts would be limited to 600 posts per day and 300 posts per day, respectively.

Additionally, Twitter announced that users would need an account on the platform to view tweets, a measure Musk referred to as a “temporary emergency measure.”

This isn’t the first time Twitter has experienced issues. In May, a Twitter outage was reported, with over 3,600 incidents of users reporting problems with the platform, according to Downdetector. In March, thousands of users also reported issues accessing links from Twitter and other websites.

After the previous incident, Musk explained that a minor change to Twitter’s data-access tool had caused the problem, criticizing the platform’s code stack as unnecessarily fragile. He expressed the need for a complete rewrite in the future.
