Simon Pegg Opens Up About Past Struggles with Alcoholism and Mental Health
In the early stages of his career, specifically during the filming of Mission Impossible III, actor Simon Pegg battled serious challenges, including alcoholism and declining mental health.
During an interview with The Guardian, the 53-year-old star of Shaun of the Dead discussed the personal issues he faced while working on the film in 2005. Pegg admitted that he was not in a good emotional or physical state at the time.
He reflected on how his childhood experiences resurfaced during this period, which affected his overall well-being. Pegg explained that despite achieving his childhood dreams, he wasn’t happy and struggled to understand why. These personal matters played a significant role in his emotional state.
Pegg emphasized the importance of finding happiness within oneself before being able to fully enjoy other aspects of life. While he eventually found that happiness, during the filming of Mission Impossible III, he felt frustrated and adrift, unable to fully embrace the experience.
Additionally, Pegg faced challenges during the shoot as he spent days waiting for his scenes with little communication. He found himself confined to a hotel in Beverly Hills, becoming restless and turning to alcohol to pass the time. The lack of purpose and structure contributed to feelings of frustration and unease.
Seeking some sense of normalcy, Pegg recalled visiting a British pub in Santa Monica, called Ye Olde King’s Head, where he sought solace in drinking Stellas.
