The Future of the Franchise: Assessing the Possibilities for ‘John Wick Chapter 5
The Future of ‘John Wick Chapter 5’ in Question, According to Director Chad Stahelski
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, filmmaker Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the John Wick franchise, raised doubts about the future of the announced Chapter 5.
When asked about the next installment, Stahelski stated, “I honestly don’t know.” He acknowledged that Lionsgate, the production company, is interested in further expanding the John Wick universe. However, he mentioned that he currently doesn’t have a specific vision for the next film.
Stahelski expressed that a sudden burst of inspiration could change the situation, saying, “But I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu [Reeves], or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of: ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now.'”
He further explained that if Chapter 5 were to happen, it would need to offer fresh and exciting elements. Stahelski mentioned having unused scenes and action sequences in mind that he would love to incorporate. He emphasized the importance of evolving and improving rather than repeating the same formula.
Previously, Lionsgate had confirmed the development of John Wick 5 after the success of Chapter 4. During an earnings call, the company’s president, Joe Drake, announced their plans for multiple spinoffs, including Ballerina and a television series called The Continental.
The uncertainties expressed by Stahelski indicate that while the future of John Wick Chapter 5 may be uncertain at the moment, possibilities for further expansion within the franchise are still being explored.
