16 runs in one ball, this is how a unique record was made

A unique record has been seen in the Big Bash tournament being played in Australia. Playing for Sydney Sixers, Steven Smith hit 16 runs in one ball.

It may be hard to believe but it has happened. This rare record was seen in the match played in Hobart.

Smith showed this feat on the ball of Hobart Hurricanes bowler Joel Paris. Paris had come to bowl the second over of the match. Steven Smith was in front of him. No runs were scored on the first two balls.

Smith hit a six on the third ball of Joel Paris. Smith flicks the Paris ball to square leg. The ball went straight across the boundary, while the umpire saw that Paris’ leg had gone out of the crease, so the ball became a no-ball.

That is, on the ball which was yet to be bowled, Smith added seven runs. Paris had to bowl the next ball on which a free hit was to be given. Paris threw wide this time and dodged the wicketkeeper and went across the fine leg boundary. In this way five runs were scored.

Now Smith had got 12 runs on the ball that was yet to be bowled. The free hit continued again on the next ball and Smith hit a four on that ball from Paris.

That is, Smith scored 16 runs on a valid ball. In this match, Smith scored 66 runs in 33 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes and his team could score 180 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Chasing this score, Hobart Hurricanes could reach 156 runs.

Interestingly, Steven Smith is not considered a batsman in Twenty20 cricket, but he is in tremendous form these days. In the last match, he scored a brilliant century against Sydney Thunders. In the previous match, he had scored a century against the Adelaide Strikers. That is, after two consecutive centuries, he scored an inning of 66 runs here.

On the other hand, Joel Paris, who gave 16 runs in one ball, took one wicket for 32 runs in 3 overs.

30-year-old Joel has played 2 ODIs for Australia. Paris has played both these ODIs against India and Shikhar Dhawan has been his first victim.

Paris was included in the Delhi Daredevils team in the 2016 season of IPL but he could not play any match due to injury.
