Breaking News Arsenal and Chelsea Reach Agreement on Kai Havertz £65m Transfer
Arsenal have reached a £65m deal with Chelsea to acquire German forward Kai Havertz.
The agreement in principle allows Havertz to commence discussions regarding personal terms and undergo a medical examination.
The transfer fee for Havertz, who scored nine goals in 47 appearances for Chelsea last season, includes potential add-ons that could increase the overall amount.
Havertz, 24, joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for a reported fee of approximately £71m.
He notably secured Chelsea’s victory in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City by scoring the winning goal.
As Arsenal aims to strengthen their squad following their Champions League qualification, Havertz is set to make the move across London.
In addition to pursuing Havertz, Arsenal is also actively pursuing West Ham captain Declan Rice, an English midfielder. However, their initial bid of up to £90m for the 24-year-old was rejected on Tuesday.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is focused on reducing the size of their squad. They have agreed to a £30m deal with Manchester City for Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, 29. Furthermore, French international N’Golo Kante, 32, has confirmed his intention to join Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad after his contract expires at the end of June.
The new ownership at Chelsea aims to prevent players from entering the final two years of their contracts. Havertz, whose current contract expires in 2025, has not yet agreed to an extension with the club.
