Mbappe Makes Exit Declaration: PSG Braces for Key Player Departure
Kylian Mbappe has informed PSG that he will not extend his contract by one year, which means his current contract will expire next summer.
Reports suggest that the French striker has conveyed his decision to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) through a letter, stating that he will not activate the option to extend his contract until 2025. Consequently, his deal is set to conclude in June 2024.
According to L’Équipe, PSG now faces the dilemma of either selling their star player this summer or potentially losing him on a free transfer next year.
It is unlikely that PSG will allow Mbappe to leave without a transfer fee, raising the possibility of a fierce battle between clubs in the upcoming season.
However, the club also has the option to persuade Mbappe to stay and offer him a lucrative contract extension.
Mbappe had until July 31 to activate a one-year extension clause in his contract. Since joining PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a reported fee of $190 million, he has become an integral part of the team.
Losing Mbappe would be a significant blow to PSG, as he is not only a national icon but also widely regarded as one of the few players capable of succeeding Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as soccer’s biggest star. Mbappe has already won five French league titles with PSG and was a key member of the French national team that won the 2018 World Cup.
