Ahmedabad Hotels Experience Price Hike in Anticipation of India-Pakistan World Cup Clash
Even though Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup is not confirmed, hotel rates in the Indian city of Ahmedabad have seen a significant surge after the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Pakistan will face arch-rivals India in the city, according to Indian media outlet Deccan Herald.
The highly anticipated match between the two rivals has created an unprecedented demand, leading to a sharp increase in hotel fares. With the match scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 15, hotel rates have gone up nearly tenfold, with some establishments charging close to 100,000 Indian rupees. It is worth noting that on a regular day, the same rooms would typically cost around Rs5,000 to Rs8,000.
The last ICC event where Pakistan and India faced each other was the T20 World Cup match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last year, which drew a crowd of over 90,000 spectators. A full house is expected at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with a capacity of approximately 132,000, as the arch-rivals prepare to battle it out.
Here is Pakistan’s schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023:
- October 6: Pakistan vs Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad
- October 12: Pakistan vs Qualifier 2 in Hyderabad

Eight teams have already qualified for the event through the Cricket World Cup Super League, and the final two spots will be taken by the finalists of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier taking place in Zimbabwe.
- If the West Indies qualify, they will be in Qualifier 1 regardless of their position in the Qualifiers.
- If Sri Lanka qualify, they will be in Qualifier 2 regardless of their position in the Qualifiers.
- If Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals, their match will be held in Kolkata.
If India qualifies for the semi-finals, their match will be held in Mumbai unless they face Pakistan, in which case it will be held in Kolkata.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with all teams playing against each other in a total of 45 league matches. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled to take place in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
