Pakistan’s Gold Medal Tally Rises at 16th Special Olympics World Games
Pakistan celebrated an increase in their gold medal count at the 16th Special Olympics World Games as Usman Qamar and Zainab Ali Raza triumphed in their respective cycling events.
Usman Qamar completed the time trial 2km race in an impressive time of 5 minutes and 2.12 seconds, securing his second gold medal at the Special Olympic World Games.
Additionally, Muhammad Safeer Abid Rizvi earned a silver medal by completing the 25 km race distance in 53 minutes and 34.85 seconds.
In the powerlifting event, Haider Ahmed excelled, winning the silver medal in the squat of the 83kg class category, as well as bronze medals in the bench press and deadlift. His combined weight lifting of 250kg earned him another silver medal.
Maria Manzoor demonstrated her strength, securing a silver medal in the bench press of the 69kg category and a bronze medal in the combined weight category.
In the unified men’s table tennis event, Imtisham Danish and Adeel Khan showcased their skills, winning the bronze medal for Pakistan with a thrilling 3-2 victory over France.
The women’s table tennis event saw Faiza Qamar and Iman Amir of Pakistan claiming the bronze medal with a resounding 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, swimmer Fatima Khan finished fifth in the 25m freestyle event, with all three Pakistani swimmers achieving personal best records at the World Games.
In the quarter-finals of the 400 meters race, Sana of Pakistan displayed an impressive performance, securing the fourth position with a time of 1 minute and 26.82 seconds.
In badminton, Pakistan faced a tough challenge against Bangladesh, losing with scores of 21-18 and 21-15, while Macao defeated China with scores of 21-17 and 21-15.
In the field hockey mixed event, Pakistan showcased their dominance by defeating Paraguay 5-0 in the first match and triumphing over Bulgaria 5-4 in the second match, securing a spot in the semi-finals.
However, in the women’s basketball event, Bulgaria emerged victorious with 21 points, while Pakistan scored 11 points in the match.
