How many teams are participating in T20 World Cup 2022?

A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament. The entire tournament is divided into Group Stage and Super-12.

Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Namibia and two qualifier teams. On the other hand, West Indies, Scotland and two qualifier teams are in Group B.

The top-2 team of both these groups will get a chance to play in the Super-12.

Now let’s talk about the Super-12 stage. 8 teams have already made their place in the Super-12 stage of the tournament. These are the teams that are the top-8 team of the 2021 T20 World Cup.

These teams are England, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh.

Now in Super-12, apart from these 8 teams, the top-2 of Group A and Group B will also be included. Super-12 is divided into two groups.

Group-1 will have England, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, the winner of Group A and the runner-up team of Group B.
Group-2 will have India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, the winner of Group B and the runner-up team of Group A.

Indian team in T20 world cup

Jasprit Bumrah’s name was also included in the Indian team that was announced for the ICC T20 World Cup, but he was ruled out due to injury before the tournament started. The BCCI announced Bumrah’s exit from the team on October 3, 2022.

In this, Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Vishnoi and Deepak Chahar were kept. But Deepak Chahar also got injured during the T20 series with South Africa before this tournament.

The BCCI did not announce for a long time who would be replaced in the team for Bumrah. Then it was announced on October 14, 2022 (Friday) and Mohammed Shami was included in the team instead of Bumrah.

Where will the T20 World Cup 2022 be played?

This tournament will be held in Australia. Tournament matches will be played at a total of seven venues in Australia. Six matches of the first round will be played at Cardinia Park in Geelong city. At the same time, a total of nine matches will be played at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, out of which six in the first round and three matches of the Super 12 stage will be played.

The first match of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Namibia on 16 October. This is a group stage match. The matches of Super-12 will start from October 22.

The first match will be between New Zealand and Australia. This match will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground. Both these teams had faced each other in the final of the 2021 World Cup. On October 22, the second match will be between England and Afghanistan.
