Pakistan Athletes Return Home Victorious from Special Olympic World Games in Berlin with 80 Medals

Pakistan’s contingent of athletes arrived back in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad on Tuesday, bringing home a total of 80 medals from the Special Olympic World Games held in Berlin. The talented athletes showcased their skills and determination, securing an impressive 11 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze medals during the June 17-25 Games.

At the airports, officials from Special Olympics Pakistan, along with relatives and fans, warmly greeted the athletes in separate groups. The triumphant players and officials were adorned with garlands and showered with rose petals as a gesture of admiration and appreciation.

The gold medalists from Pakistan include Saifullah Solangi, Usman Qamar, Umair Kayani, Faiza Nasir, Naheen Khan, Mohammad Luqman, Zainab Ali Raza, and Sana, who had the honor of being the torchbearer at the opening ceremony.

Expressing their gratitude and pride, the athletes credited their success to their hard work, dedicated training under coaches, the support of Special Olympics Pakistan, and the prayers of the entire nation.

Ronak Lakhani, the head of the national contingent and chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, expressed her gratitude to Allah for the outstanding performance of the athletes in the World Games. She highlighted that extensive preparations had been underway for the event over the past four years. Lakhani emphasized the crucial role of the unified partners and coaches in the athletes’ success, acknowledging their tireless efforts and excellent training. She also extended her congratulations to the parents of the players.

Yasmin Haider, advisor to Special Olympics Pakistan, emphasized the significance of the World Games as the largest event for special athletes and volunteers worldwide. She praised the participation of top teams and the dedication displayed by all participants.

The remarkable achievements of the Pakistani athletes in Berlin serve as a testament to their talent, determination, and the unwavering support of their coaches, officials, and the entire nation.
