Uruguay out of the tournament even after winning: beat Ghana; Portugal- South Korea qualify
Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Friday. Despite winning, Uruguay failed to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals. He stood third in Group H. Both goals in the match were scored by Jorgen de Arrasqueta of Uruguay. Arrasketa scored in the 26th and 32nd minutes.
South Korea also had only 4 points
Uruguay had to win the match at any cost to qualify for the knockout rounds. At the same time, they wanted South Korea not to win. But this could not happen, South Korea defeated Portugal 2-1. Both the teams got 4-4 points in the points table. But, South Korea qualified for the next round due to better fair play. In fact, during the group stage in the tournament, South Korea got fewer yellow cards than the Uruguayan team. That’s why he qualified by staying second above Uruguay in the points table.
Ghana misses penalty
Ghana had a chance to take a penalty in the first half, but the team failed to convert it into a goal. Ghana got a penalty in the 21st minute. It was taken by team captain Andre Ayew. He shot the ball softly, which was saved by the Uruguayan goalkeeper.
The first goal came in the 26th minute
Uruguay scored the first goal in the 26th minute of the match. The goal was scored by the team’s striker, Giorgio de Arrasketa. Luis Suarez tried to score on a pass by teammate Pellistri. But, the ball went past the Ghanaian goalkeeper and went to D’Arrasqueta. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Giorgio de Arrasketa sent the ball inside the net.
Uruguay doubled the lead in the first half
Giorgio de Arrasketa scored the second goal in the 32nd minute of the first half of the match. Striker Darwin Nunez charged forward on Pellistri’s pass. Núñez passes the ball to Suárez and Suárez passes it to Arrasqueta. Arrasketa’s superb finish gave the team a 2-0 lead.
