Lost in the Search: Understanding the Effects of Twitter’s Updates on Tweet Visibility
Google Search Experiences Twitter Void as Changes Impact Tweet Visibility
Twitter’s recent alterations have caused tweets and pages from the platform to disappear from Google Search results, according to spokesperson Lara Levin. In a statement to The Verge, Levin explained that Twitter’s changes affected the “ability to display tweets and pages from the site in search results.” This development comes as websites maintain control over content accessibility to web crawlers.
Twitter implemented significant changes, including blocking unregistered users from browsing tweets and imposing limits on daily tweet reading. Search Engine Land conducted a comparison of indexed Twitter URLs in Google search between Friday and Monday, revealing a drastic decrease from 471 million to 180 million results under the “site:twitter.com” search term.
The ban on tweet limits is expected to be temporary, potentially leading to the restoration of previous search results once lifted. In addition, Twitter introduced a new TweetDeck app as a replacement for the inaccessible original version, but access to the new app is limited to registered users only.
