Pacific Ocean Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warning: Stay Alert

The Pacific Ocean was struck by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey. The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 300 kilometers (190 miles) east of the New Caledonian archipelago, with a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles).

Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has stated that any potential tsunami waves are expected to be less than 0.3 meters (one foot) in height. However, caution is still advised for the Pacific islands of Fiji, Kiribati, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna, as they may experience some impact.

Earlier, the warning had been issued for coastal areas within 300 kilometers (185 miles) of the epicenter. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided accordingly.

It is worth noting that the same area was hit by a major 7.7-magnitude earthquake the day before, prompting residents of several Pacific islands to seek higher ground due to the potential threat of large waves. However, the tsunami warning was lifted after a few hours.
