Riyadh’s World Expo Win Paving the Way for Saudi Vision 2030
World Expo 2030, a momentous event drawing millions, is slated to be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Themed “The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow,” the Riyadh Expo is scheduled from October 2030 to March 2031. Three countries — the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Italy, and South Korea — have actively campaigned for this quinquennial event. Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman spearheads the Kingdom’s efforts, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030, leveraging the Kingdom’s strategic location, investment power, and centrality in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The Kingdom, as the sole bidder, secured the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034. Originating from the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the multi-month World Expo is tailored to address contemporary issues and organized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris. Riyadh was chosen as the host after the final bid presentation during the BIE general assembly in Paris. The theme for the next World Expo, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” is scheduled for 2025 in Osaka, Japan, following the 2020 event in Dubai.
