Can I drink milk after eating fish? read the opinion of doctors
There are often talks about the taste of food at the dinner table, but there are some assumptions which are considered to be true.
Generally, the trend of eating fish increases in winter. In such a situation, the debate once again returns on the dining table of homes whether milk can be drunk after eating fish? Will doing this cause vitiligo i.e. white spots on the skin or cataract?
In vitiligo, some part of the skin starts losing its pigment, due to which those parts start appearing separately.
On one hand, attention has been specially drawn by a Twitter user from India. His name is Uzair Rizvi.
He tweeted that his mother still gets nervous if he drinks milk after eating fish.
Regarding this belief, some people also say that a sect of Jews is very careful about drinking milk after eating fish.
Similarly, another user wrote that it is actually a philosophy of Unani medicine. On the other hand, some people have the belief that eating both the things together causes complaints like abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting.
Regarding eating milk and fish together, BBC Urdu spoke to experts and tried to know whether there is any relation between these two things.
Pakistan’s dermatologist Dr. Urmila Javed said that this is a hypothesis.
He said that getting white marks on the skin i.e. vitiligo has nothing to do with eating milk or fish together, rather it is not related to any food.
Dr. Urmila said, “It is an autoimmune disease, which means your immune system starts making antibodies against melanin (cells that give color to the skin).”
“The areas where the antibodies attack cause damage to the melanin, which is clearly visible on our skin.”
What do nutritionists say?
BBC Urdu also talked to nutritionist Dr. Zainab about this. He said that this is our belief but it has no scientific basis.
He said, “Consuming milk and fish together does not guarantee that white marks will appear on the skin.”
Dr. Zainab said that it should be noted that it is not only associated with fish and milk but also with many other food items. In this come those things which are considered harmful on the basis of hot and cold.
He said that nutritionists talk about giving more on the quantity of food. It doesn’t matter whether the food item is cold or hot, but what matters is the quantity you are taking it.
Dr Zainab says, “If you eat something in excess, it has a negative effect on your digestive system.”
Although it is certain that some food items can cause skin allergies in people. Talking about this, Dr. Urmila Javed said that some people are allergic to some food and drink.
He said that in some cases allergies also occur due to canned goods, preservatives, or the color of food items.
