Due to the threat of Russian missiles in Ukrainian airspace, Zelinsky secretly traveled from Ukraine to Poland by rail. On Wednesday, he was spotted at a railway station in a border village.
Photos released on local Polish media show a convoy walking alongside Zielinski with a blue and yellow Ukrainian train in the background. A convoy of black Chevrolet vehicles was waiting for the group. This car is one of the favorite models of the US government.
Several Western leaders and officials have traveled by rail to the Ukrainian capital Kiev to meet with Zelenskiy. But it was the first time since the Russian intervention that Zelensky himself went abroad.
Flight data showed that a US Air Force Boeing C-40B flew Zelinsky to Washington. The plane took off from Zheshov Airport, 80 km to the west.
The plane headed north-west towards Britain, but before entering North Sea airspace, a NATO spy plane scanned the entire region. It is believed that Russian submarines patrol this sea.
A US F-15 fighter jet flew from England and monitored Zielinski’s journey.
The plane landed near Washington in the afternoon after the Ukrainian president’s train journey and then the plane took off 10 hours earlier.
