Awe-Inspiring Adventure: Naila Kiani and Samina Baig Conquer Nanga Parbat
Renowned mountaineers Naila Kiani and Samina Baig made history on Sunday by becoming the first Pakistani women to successfully scale Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain in the world. Standing at a daunting height of 8,126 meters, Nanga Parbat is known as the ‘Killer Mountain’ due to its high fatality rate and treacherous conditions, including unstable glaciers, avalanches, and storms.
The Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Karrar Haidri, confirmed Kiani’s summit and shared the news on Facebook. In his post, he announced, “Today, on July 2, 2023, at 10:18 am, Naila Kiani reached the majestic summit of Nanga Parbat, standing tall at an inspiring height of 8,126 meters.” Haidri also praised Kiani’s incredible climbing achievements, stating, “She has now conquered seven of the enormous 8,000-meter peaks on our planet, solidifying her position as one of the most talented climbers of our time. From the legendary Everest to the challenging K2, from the commanding Lhotse to the perilous Annapurna, and from the elusive G1 to the formidable G2, Naila has demonstrated her exceptional skills.”
Haidri didn’t stop there, as he also shared the news of Samina Baig’s success. Baig, the first Pakistani woman to conquer both Mount Everest and K2, as well as the first to scale all seven continents, achieved another remarkable feat by conquering Nanga Parbat. Haidri took to social media to announce Baig’s accomplishment, saying, “Wajid Ullah Nagari and ten other international mountaineers successfully scaled Nanga Parbat today, July 2, 2023, at 11:08 am PST.” He applauded the mountaineers for overcoming various challenges, including hazardous terrain and severe weather, through their unwavering determination, talent, and teamwork.
