Squid Game The Challenge” Share Insights into Grueling Filming Environment
The reaction follows criticism from an ousted participant on ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ who labeled the filming conditions as ‘inhumane.’
Contestants from Netflix’s ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ are addressing concerns about the competition’s filming conditions after an anonymous player criticized the production for its alleged “inhumane setup.”
The reality show, inspired by the Emmy-winning Korean drama Squid Game, features 456 competitors engaging in challenging games for a grand prize of $4.56 million.
In the summer, an unnamed contestant contacted Variety and expressed dissatisfaction with the filming conditions, particularly during the Red Light, Green Light challenge, which eliminated 228 participants, including the anonymous source. The contestant claimed that the production exposed them to “inhumane” conditions and filmed the episode on an extremely cold day.
Disputing these claims, other players spoke to Entertainment Tonight, emphasizing that the competition was intentionally designed to be challenging. One player named Bryton stated, “I was very surprised that somebody ran to the media that fast because they’re just really upset that they got eliminated really quick.”
Another participant, who considered themselves “the strongest player” but was eliminated, remarked, “You have to expect some difficulties. If not, it would have been advertised as having ice cream in Malibu instead of Squid Game: The Challenge, right?”
Rick, the show’s oldest competitor, dismissed the accusations with a laugh, saying, “I expected it to be difficult. You know, $4.56 million – it needs to be difficult.”
