Tom Brady’s Last NFL Jersey Sets Unprecedented Auction Benchmark”
The quarterback’s signature and the inscription, “My last game G.O.A.T out!” adorn the grass-stained No. 12 jersey, worn during the 2023 NFC Wild Card round against the Dallas Cowboys on January 16. This historic piece, marked by Tom Brady’s indelible touch, fetched a record-breaking $1.39 million at auction after his retirement.
RM Sotheby’s conducted the auction, held after the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, featuring 39 lots that included prized memorabilia such as Lewis Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes F1 car and Lando Norris’ signed McLaren helmet.
Despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 31-14 loss in the mentioned game, Brady’s departure from the field marked the symbolic conclusion of his illustrious career for the second and final time. The jersey, in excellent condition consistent with game use, bears visible grass stains and field marks, validating its authenticity.
The mystery buyer, whose identity remains undisclosed, secured this iconic jersey for $1.391 million, surpassing the previous record set by Joe Montana’s San Francisco 49ers jersey from Super Bowl XXIII in March, which fetched $1,212,000.
Brady officially retired in February, diversifying his post-NFL ventures. Notably, he entered team ownership by acquiring stakes in the English soccer club Birmingham and expressed interest in acquiring shares in the Las Vegas Raiders.
Additionally, the NFL icon is set to embark on a broadcasting career, having signed a lucrative 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports. Brady’s strategic moves into team ownership and broadcasting underline the multifaceted trajectory of his post-playing career, demonstrating his enduring impact on the sports industry.
