Breaking News Former US President Trump Denies Guilt in Classified Documents Lawsuit
MIAMI: Former US President Donald Trump was taken into custody at the federal courthouse in Florida on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to federal criminal charges. CNN reported that he is accused of unlawfully retaining national security documents upon leaving office and providing false information to officials who were attempting to recover them.
The arrest involved Deputy Marshals who processed Trump’s fingerprints. Additionally, his aide and co-defendant, Walt Nauta, was also arrested and underwent fingerprinting and processing.
Trump’s plea was entered before US Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman in a federal court located in Miami. This sets the stage for a legal battle that is expected to unfold over the next few months as he campaigns for a potential return to the presidency in the November 2024 election.
The court hearing was held without cameras or live broadcasts.
This marks Trump’s second appearance in court in recent months. In April, he pleaded not guilty to state charges in New York related to a hush-money payment made to a porn star.
If convicted, Trump would become the first former president to face federal criminal charges. He has consistently maintained his innocence and has accused President Joe Biden’s administration of unfairly targeting him.
On social media, Trump referred to Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution, as a “Trump hater.”
