Ajit Agarkar to Spearhead Selection: India’s Chief Cricket Selector Revealed

Ajit Agarkar Appointed as Chief Selector of Indian Men’s Cricket Team

Former pace bowler Ajit Agarkar has been unanimously elected as the chief selector of the Indian men’s cricket team, taking charge of a five-member committee.

Agarkar’s appointment follows the resignation of his predecessor, Chetan Sharma, who stepped down after being caught in a sting operation where he was heard gossiping about national stars.

A three-member committee, appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), recommended Agarkar for the role of chairperson of the men’s selection committee based on seniority and his extensive experience playing Test matches.

During his international career from 1998 to 2007, the 45-year-old Agarkar represented India in 26 Tests, 191 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and four Twenty20 matches. Notably, he was part of India’s victorious squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 held in South Africa.

The remaining members of the selection committee include Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath.

Earlier this year, Chetan Sharma resigned after his controversial remarks and claims were captured on hidden camera and broadcasted by Zee News. Sharma had accused former captain Virat Kohli and former cricket board chief Sourav Ganguly of clashing egos. He also made claims about the unauthorized use of injections by players to pass fitness tests.

Following India’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup last year, the BCCI had initially sacked the entire selection panel, but Sharma was later reinstated before his eventual resignation.
