Venom 3′ Filming Paused as SAG-AFTRA Strike Impacts Sony’s Marvel Universe
The highly anticipated production of Sony’s Marvel film, ‘Venom 3,’ has been temporarily halted due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strike.
This setback poses a significant challenge for Sony’s expanding Spider-Man Universe, which includes upcoming films such as ‘Kraven the Hunter’ in October 2023, ‘Madame Web,’ and ‘Venom 3’ in 2024.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony made the decision to pause ‘Venom 3’ production in response to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
‘Venom 3,’ featuring Tom Hardy reprising his role as the iconic anti-hero, not only concludes the Venom trilogy but also stands as Sony’s most significant live-action Marvel project in terms of box office potential.
Building upon the success of ‘Venom’ and ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage,’ ‘Venom 3’ also carries the added excitement of potential connections to ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.’
Directed by Kelly Marcel, who served as a longtime Venom screenwriter and is making her directorial debut, ‘Venom 3’ had recently commenced filming in Spain. Although initially planned for an October 2024 release, Sony has now designated the premiere date as “To Be Announced” (TBA).
Interestingly, ‘Venom 3′ is the second Marvel film to be affected by production halts, as Marvel Studios’ ‘Deadpool 3’ also encountered a shutdown on July 14th.
