A Phoenix Rising: Arshad Nadeem’s Comeback Quest at World Athletics Championship
Commonwealth Games gold medalist javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is determined to make a strong comeback in the upcoming World Athletics Championship, following a knee injury he suffered in 2021.
Arshad is currently diligently preparing for the global event, scheduled to take place from August 25 to 27 in Hungary.
In a conversation with Geo News during his training at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore, Nadeem revealed that he has made a complete recovery from the knee injury.
“My knee injury has fully healed,” Arshad stated. “Regrettably, I had to miss the Asian Championship due to the injury. Nevertheless, I have now resumed intense training and am eagerly anticipating clinching medals in the upcoming competitions,” he affirmed.
Following the World Athletics Championship, Nadeem will participate in the Asian Games, commencing on September 23 in Hangzhou, China.
Furthermore, the national champion has his sights set on the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I am focusing on the Olympics next year. My goal is to gear up for the Olympics once again. While the government has provided me with facilities, there is room for improvement to match international standards,” he emphasized.
“My Indian counterpart Neeraj Chopra enjoys far better facilities than I do. That’s the distinction between us,” Arshad concluded.
It is important to note that Arshad had sustained his knee injury during the 34th National Games.
According to the Athletics Federation of Pakistan chief Akram Sahi, Nadeem had injured his right knee. The javelin thrower had previously undergone surgery on his left knee last year.
Sahi also pointed fingers at WAPDA for pressuring Arshad to participate in the National Games, where he ultimately secured a gold medal.
